MABAS is a user-driven system designed to streamline the requesting and providing of emergency and fire services resources across Michigan for day-to-day mutual aid and for large-scale events such as major fires, train derailments, tornadoes, wildfires, domestic or foreign terrorism and other events that may overwhelm local resources. The Harbor Beach Fire Department lent one of its tanker trucks for fire relief efforts in Hemlock last month at a massive grain silo fire. He said many fire departments across the state and country belong to a system called MABAS – or Mutual Aid Box Alarm System. Lermont went on to explain how our local fire departments became involved.
